The Guitars of Night is the name of episode forty two of The Poe Underground Podcast. This episode is a tribute to the guitar (specifically the classical guitar). The previous two podcast episodes were a tribute to classical piano. I wanted to balance this out by showcasing several tracks of guitar and voice only pieces. Though the first track on the episode features other instruments, the remaining five pieces feature only guitar and the voice.
I originally started this “experiment” of using only the nylon-stringed guitar and voice for a library podcast I produced called Six String Poetry. The experiment was a success and the marriage of classical guitar and voice blended perfectly. These tracks were never released on The Poe Underground Podcast until now.
The first track on the podcast was a re-mix of un-released music from my first studio album. I added an udu track to the original music and off we were. In the end I crafted a new suite of poems I call – The Gears of Night, out of my own material.
I trust and hope you find “The Guitars of Night” to be a satisfying experience as not only are the guitars a common motif for this episode, but so is the common element of night present in most of the poetry.
